The German company IDT Biologika, a vendor of products containing PMSG, describes the effects as follows: "One method that has been used successfully over several decades to stimulate and synchronise oestrus is the administration of a PMSG preparation to the sows concerned in order to start their cycle 24 hours after separation from the piglets. Once or twice a week, up to ten litres of blood are taken from the mares for a period of eleven to twelve weeks.
